About BikEscape

Our Mission (should you choose to accept it) is to provide you with the confidence and skills for a ridiculously fun, seriously safe, mind-blowing mountain bike adventure around the trails of the majestic Canadian Rockies.

Our certified instructors are passionate, local guides with extensive knowledge of the trail network. The BicyKids program is based on skills, safety, and smiles. Oh and snacks, who could forget snacks? Come ride bikes with us, we really do have ALL the fun!

Our goal is to be the leading local, authentic, all round mountain bike experience in the Bow Valley for riders of all ages and abilities. We strive to build a solid community of kids and adults celebrating their passion and confidence of riding mountain bikes.

Our Coaches

Jana Brantlova

If you are wondering where Coach Jana’s cool Euro accent comes from, the answer is the Czech Republic. Jana grew up in Czech, immersed in sports. She is a swimmer, track and field athlete, and triathlete. However, it was when she began training for triathlons that her love for riding bikes began. Jana started racing XC mountain bike races and made it to the Xterra World Championships in Maui in 2018, where she placed second in her age group. She went on to become a triathlon coach before moving to the Bow Valley about a year ago. Jana has her PMBIA Level 1 and is excited to share her love for riding with you.

Sandy Charchun

An Alberta native, Sandy moved to Canmore in 2007 from High River. It was when she first moved to the Bow Valley that she started mountain biking and got hooked. Fifteen years later she is still loving it. Along with coaching for BikEscape, Sandy also works as a fitness coach and personal trainer. For fun, Sandy also enjoys snowboarding, skiing, dirt biking, running, boxing, snowmobiling and, well, pretty much anything that gets the adrenaline pumping! When not out on the trails, Sandy loves spending time with her toddler, Ashlyn, and husband, Casey.

Bruce Marpole

Over the 30 years Bruce has been riding in the Bow Valley the bike technology may have changed but his passion for the sport is just the same. It is full-stoke! After years of recreational riding, Bruce recently “switched gears”, obtained his PMBIA Level 1 certification, and joined the BikEscape team to help share his passion for mountain biking with anyone that wants to go for a ride. A transplant from Montreal, Bruce raised his two boys in Banff and has coached minor hockey and skiing along the way. A true mountain enthusiast, no matter the weather, he is always up for an adventure. “I have been extremely fortunate to live, work and play in the Bow Valley most of my adult life. Not a day goes by where I’m not inspired by my surroundings and excited to get out and enjoy this amazing outdoor playground.”

Penny Lawless

Penny loves bikes – all kinds of bikes. If you are looking for her, she is probably on the local trails mountain biking or fatbiking. If she is not there, it is likely because she is somewhere out of cell range participating in a multi-day bikepacking adventure or race. No stranger to “hard-core”, she previously enjoyed being part of a 24 Hours of Adrenaline team three years in a row. Penny has also competed in several duathlons. Outside of biking, Penny is also a proud founding member of the very successful Rundle Women’s Hockey League in Banff. Having lived in Banff for over 30 years, Penny enjoys sharing her love of the area with all those she meets. She recently completed her 40-hour Wilderness First Aid and PMBIA Level 1.
